Job Summary:  

Oversee the Fitness Equipment Maintenance staff regionally across all Village Health Clubs & Spas while closely monitoring all repairs, upgrades and maintenance of fitness equipment are performed to standards. Actively involved in the design and layout of equipment for optimal utilization and safety. This role is responsible for overseeing the execution of repair and maintenance operations to ensure they are performed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with cleanliness protocols, while meeting service-level expectations of members, guests, and staff. Additionally, the position ensures adherence to all applicable safety codes, manufacturer guidelines, and legal regulations governing fitness equipment across all Village Clubs.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Oversee Fitness Equipment Maintenance staff regionally across all Village Clubs, providing leadership through delegation, training, troubleshooting, and ensuring all repairs are completed to standard. Confirm the use of high-quality upholstery, parts, and products.
  • Responsible for verifying adherence to company standards, safety standards, and legal requirements regarding fitness equipment.
  • Oversee the coordination of all maintenance projects to ensure satisfactory completion. Both in-house projects and those contracted through bids.
  • Audit tracking logs of equipment repairs at each club. Be knowledgeable of daily inspections, maintenance needs and equipment status.
  • Monitor tracking of routine equipment inspections to ensure proper preventative and routine maintenance is completed as required. Responsible for verifying that systems are in place to protect the safety of members and employees. Identify safety concerns and ensure they are addressed appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for verifying that preferred vendors are within budgets, invoices are accurate, and monthly credit card expenses are correct. Ensure that the processes for obtaining quotes, placing orders, preparing purchase orders, tracking orders are followed.
  • Responsible for ensuring that annual preventative maintenance schedules are followed and preventative maintenance logs are kept up to date.
  • Research new equipment. Partner with General Managers to assess current equipment, evaluate needs and suggest updated options.
  • Track new equipment orders, placement of orders and tracking of equipment and parts orders.
  • Attend the Health & Fitness Association annual tradeshow, The HFA Show.
  • May be involved in assisting with the transport of large packages, machinery, or tools from one club to another. May be involved in the supervision of welding work or perform welding work.
  • Approachable management style which includes supervising and managing staff members, planning, assigning and direct work/projects, appraising performance, and annual individual/team goals
  • Responsible for hiring, staffing, scheduling, and training of department staff.
  • Attract and Retain members by consistently providing excellent customer service and cosmetically presentable club.
  • Responsible for interacting with employees, members and guests in a manner aligned with the People, Places and Programs components of the Village Standards
  • Performs additional duties as assigned
  • May be required to work evenings and weekends as needed
Knowledge/Skills Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least five or more years of experience using mechanical tools and skills to repair and maintain fitness equipment.
  • Prior experience with supervision and management.
  • Experience in a health club environment.
  • Purchasing experience and vendor selection.
  • Strong team building skills. Able to lead, train, cooperate and contribute as part of a team.
  • Ability to effectively delegate.
  • Possess strong planning and organizational skills, as well as strong understanding of operations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • high standards in ethics, service, and image presentation.
  • High degree of self-organization, self-discipline, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Ability to evaluate repairs and projects efficiently.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to commute to multiple locations and have a valid Arizona Driver’s License with a clean driving record.

Required Abilities

Physical Activity
This position requires daily standing, walking, lifting, grasping, bending, stooping, wiping, pulling, pushing, and kneeling. Sitting for some periods of time and standing for long periods of time. Substantial repetitive movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Involved in activities where one must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Requires the ability to receive detailed information through written and oral communication.

Physical Requirement
Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds and occasionally very heavy lifting up to 50 pounds to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate to heavy amounts of weight and to operate assigned equipment. Must also be able to climb unusual heights on ladders.

Visual Requirement
This position requires close visual acuity to perform extensive reading and activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing computer monitors, repair manuals, process documents and instructions manuals.

Working Conditions
Work is primarily performed in an indoor and sometimes outdoor environment, exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, mechanical and electrical hazards, and extreme warm temperature conditions in addition to typical office or administrative work and outdoor activity.
